SAN JOSE MUSEUM OF ART

Oil on canvas

I think I painted this painting a little too early. Right after the arena was built there was such a buzz about it. San Jose had just created the ‘SHARKS’ the ice hockey team, and the arena to this day is lovingly referred to by some fans as the Shark Tank. The reason I say I painted this a little too early was because even though the arena was operational the surroundings and the decorations and the big electronic advertising board none of those were up yet. That is why the building looks a little different in my painting than it does today. The one important thing I was working with was to bring that staged confrontation from the Sharks’ into the painting. Thus you will see the sky painted with a very confrontational pattern and colors.
